Carol Wolken (1950-2012) was a born leader who offered her superb organizational skills and creative ideas to many charitable activities, including EnergyCare, Catholic Charities, and foster care. She began her EnergyCare board service in 2002 when she was recruited to help plan the 20th anniversary celebration – the Summer Survival Fair to educate the public about EnergyCare’s mission and clients’ needs as well as reach new donors and volunteers. Carol’s ideas: food vendors, raffles, a walk/run, and celebrity involvement made the event a huge success.
Carol was a dedicated and active board member, always looking for ways to promote and grow EnergyCare. After having included EnergyCare in their working on the 2003 Summer Survival Fair, she saw that EnergyCare needed to grow or would stagnate and close. She began a persistent advocacy for the board to take action to grow EnergyCare. Throughout her board service, she continued encouraging the board and key volunteers to improve and grow the organization.
Carol will be remembered for her cheerful determination, positive attitude, and compassion and care for others. Both Carol and her husband, Mike (1949-2018), were dedicated to EnergyCare, and everything they did was to enhance and improve the services provided to those in need. They were also financially supportive in their lifetimes and especially generous in their passing, having included EnergyCare in their estate plan. We are grateful for their dedication to EnergyCare’s mission.
