Volunteer

You or your group can help EnergyCare make life better for your low-income neighbors.

Each year, EnergyCare is the beneficiary of hundreds of donated hours by volunteers of all ages and from many different backgrounds. We have individual volunteers as well as groups from churches, schools, and community organizations. Volunteers can: weatherize homes, prepare weatherization kits, collect blankets, prepare mailings, and other activities. A group of our wonderful volunteers!

Volunteers from all walks of life support EnergyCare’s mission. Whoever you are, if you want to help… you can!

Fall and Winter Opportunities

Home Weatherization: Weatherization is our most popular volunteer activity, especially for groups such as clubs, classes, and church groups. After a brief training session, volunteers accompany staff members into clients’ homes to install energy-saving materials such as clear vinyl window coverings and weatherstrip for doors. To find out more about weatherizing check out our Weatherization FAQs page.

Preparation of Weatherization Kits: Volunteers meet at EnergyCare to assemble kits full of energy-saving weatherization materials. These kits are then distributed by EnergyCare to able-bodied people throughout the fall and winter.

Spring and Summer Opportunities

Air Conditioner Pickup: After a brief orientation session, volunteers pick up new and used window air conditioners from EnergyCare donors around the St. Louis area. This activity requires the commitment of a few hours each week during the late spring and summer months. Must have your own transportation.

Year-round Opportunities

Blanket Drives: Ideal for clubs, classes, offices and churches, sponsoring a blanket drive is a great way to get involved. EnergyCare can help you organize a blanket drive to collect new or like-new blankets that we will then distribute to our low-income elderly and ill clients.

Maintenance: Help EnergyCare maintain its buildings and grounds. Possible activities include cleaning, yard work, painting and minor repairs.

Office Work: Throughout the year assistance is needed with work around the office, from answering the helpline to preparing mailings.
